Why we collect it: Your personal information is collected solely for the purpose of processing your application for a professional designation, maintaining your designation record, and communicating with you about your designation status and continuing professional development obligations.

How we protect it: Your information is stored securely in an encrypted database hosted in the European Union (Supabase, West EU Ireland region) and is accessible only to authorised PBCSSA staff and your designated supervisor where applicable.

Who we share it with: Your personal information will not be shared with any third party without your explicit written consent, except where required by law or by a court order.

Your rights: You have the right to access, correct, object to or request the deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting the PBCSSA Information Officer at [email to be inserted].

Retention: Your application records will be retained for a period of five years from the date of the final decision on your application, or for the duration of your designation if awarded.

1.2 Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement
CONFIDENTIALITY AND NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT

This Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement is entered into between the applicant identified in this application form and the Professional Body for the Coatings Sector of South Africa (PBCSSA).

1. Confidential information: All information submitted as part of this application, including personal details, professional history, academic records, referee details and supporting documents, is treated as confidential by the PBCSSA.

2. PBCSSA obligations: The PBCSSA undertakes that it will not disclose any personal or professional information submitted by the applicant to any person or organisation outside of the PBCSSA without the prior written consent of the applicant, except where required by law.

3. Panel member obligations: All adjudication panel members and committee members who have access to application materials are bound by separate confidentiality undertakings with the PBCSSA. They are prohibited from disclosing any information about any application to any person.

4. Public register: If a designation is awarded, the applicant's name, designation title, membership number and designation status will be listed on the PBCSSA public register of designated professionals. No other personal information will be included in this public listing without the designee's consent.

5. Breach: Any breach of this agreement by the PBCSSA shall entitle the applicant to seek appropriate remedy in terms of applicable South African law, including but not limited to a complaint to the Information Regulator under POPIA.

Choose your designation tier and type
Based on your years of experience and qualifications, select the designation tier that best matches your level of practice. Then select the specific designation you are applying for.
If you are unsure which designation to apply for, please contact the PBCSSA secretariat before submitting your application. Applying for the wrong designation tier may delay the assessment of your application.

ECEntry / Candidate
0 to 2 years experience. 60 CPD hours per cycle. For professionals new to the sector working under supervision.
CPCoatings Practitioner
2 or more years experience. 75 CPD hours per cycle. Independent competence across a defined range of coating activities.
CProCoatings Professional
5 or more years experience. 90 CPD hours per cycle. Experienced professionals who specify, supervise and quality-assure coating systems.
SPSenior Professional
10 or more years experience. 105 CPD hours per cycle. Recognised subject matter experts with leadership experience.
MFMaster / Fellow
15 or more years experience. 120 CPD hours per cycle. By nomination only. Outstanding contribution to the sector.

Supervisor and referee details
Please provide the details of your current or most recent direct supervisor or manager. This person must be able to confirm your professional experience and conduct. The PBCSSA may contact them directly as part of the assessment process.
Your supervisor will be contacted by the PBCSSA to verify your professional experience. Please inform them that they may receive a communication from us before you submit this application.
